Alex From Target: Fame Comes From Out of Nowhere

By now, you've heard of Alex from Target. Today, I met Solomon from Target.  He is a handsome, African American young man who happened to be my cashier at Target.  I asked him if he knew about Alex from Target and he said he heard all about it.  I told him someone should take his picture and put it on Twitter. He agreed because Alex from Target is the talk of the town.  I hope someone takes a picture of Solomon and tweets it out to teenagers soon.  He's a great cashier and a nice kid, too.

One girl tweeted a picture of Alex and it went viral, leading to an appearance by Alex on the Ellen TV show.  He got a free iPad and a trip for him and his family to Hollywood.  He even has interest from a talent agency because seemingly, he is representing himself as his own brand.  I don't even think Alex realizes he is representing his own brand or the future of his own brand.

The kid has a hook, the public recognizes him and they like him.  And the agents realize that the public would buy whatever he's selling.

Meanwhile, the young lady who took the picture did not get fame, even though she took the photograph and sent it to her friend.  She did not appear on Ellen and she did not receive an iPad.

Fame is fleeting but in today's world it can come out of nowhere.  Alex has handled it well.  He's a kid who presented himself respectfully on Ellen.  It reminded me that you always have to be prepared for the unexpected.  Be prepared for your moment, whether it's on a smaller scale than a national television show or not, because your moment is coming.  Be respectful, be humble, be smart and listen.  When that moment comes, you want to be prepared and represent the best in yourself and show the potential for future of your own brand.
