Disney has another family animated hit on their hands. Bravo!
I'm a big fan of Frozen and I expect Big Hero 6 will be the same. The world agrees because according to Box Office Mojo the film opened on November 7th and it's already grossed $147 Million Worldwide.
I've seen the budget for Big Hero 6 listed from $165 million to $225 million. If you include all of the commercials, marketing and billboards, it's probably closer to the latter number. But with a big opening box office return like that, they'll have no problem making a huge profit.
The funny thing is that Big Hero 6 is not the talk of the town. Forbes has noticed that fact. And it just doesn't matter. The box office always seems to attract audiences for the best movies whether they have the most publicity or not. Call it word-of-mouth promotion. Disney also has reliability. When you walk into a Disney animated film, you know what to expect. Disney is always consistent with their brand.
Meanwhile, Frozen has grossed 1.27 Billion in the box office.
If I were running a studio today, I would invest big in animations. The return is huge. The jokes cover all ages and entertain the masses. Family friendly fare is fantastic!
