I never imagined something like this, but here it is just the same.
Marketing genius. Can you imagine drinking hot espresso in a chocolate dipped cone? That is exactly what Alfred Coffee has done.
A friend took me to Alfred Coffee on Melrose the other day because I was desperate to try one. Fortunately, I was treated to this little slice of heaven because this marketing genius cost $8. It's a couple of swallows at best because it's only a shot of espresso. But it's an original idea.
The chocolate on the cone melts and turns into a beautiful treat which surpasses the espresso in excellence.
I did have a little bit of melted chocolate dripping on my lips, but it was worth the extra cleanup.
I am shocked that Starbucks didn't come up with this idea first. I'm surprised they haven't imitated it in some form and then lowered the price. Either way, I think the espresso cone should be offered with a dollop of whipped cream to the top. That's just my opinion.
It's no surprise that Alfred Coffee is in the process of opening a third store in Brentwood where most locals can afford an $8 chocolate espresso treat regularly. But if Alfred Coffee could mainstream this idea in some form and cut the cost while taking it national, it could be offered on every corner.
Starbucks has a serious competitor in Alfred Coffee. The customers are happy. And I would bet we will only see more of these coffee shops opening in the near future. Possibly Starbucks will make a move to attempt to acquire Alfred Coffee... soon.
