Call For Dashcams, Bodycams and Security Cameras: Too Many Shootings

New Orleans officer was shot and killed at 8 AM this morning.  Sadly, the officer was a father of three and he was killed the day before Father's Day. Another shooting tragedy.  The suspect has been apprehended.

This news comes on the heels of the fatal shootings of nine people in Charleston, South Carolina.  In heartbreaking footage, family members told the defendant "I forgive you" and "hate won't win."

To protect parishioners, more churches are considering having armed security guards with concealed weapons at church services and gatherings.  Most likely, the security guards will be off-duty police officers.  Churches, like many schools, are also considering installing surveillance video cameras so they can be monitored by security.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, we've had another police shooting and disturbing video has surfaced. The police say he was unarmed yet he is now in critical condition after being shot in the head by the police.

Honestly, there should be warnings with these videos.  So, here's a WARNING.

LAPD Shoot Unarmed Man Gesturing With Towel Wrapped Arm

There's also video of a fatal police shooting of an unarmed man in Utah.

Shocking New Video Shows Unarmed Man Was Listening to Headphones When Killed by Police

The shooting of Dillon Taylor was already ruled justified in Utah because his hands were tucked into the top of his pants.  Most likely, it will be the same situation for yesterday's shooting in LA because the man had his hand wrapped in a towel.

According to a story in The Washington Post, the number of police shootings are grossly underreported.  We only hear about a percentage of police involved shootings.  Most police shootings are not videotaped by dashcam or bodycam.  Nor are they recorded by Joe Public on cell phones.

The recent fatal shooting of unarmed college student Feras Morad by a Long Beach Police Officer had no dashcam footage or bodycam footage.

In order to protect the police and the public in revealing the truth of every situation, I truly feel that every police car should be required to have dashcam footage at all times and every police officer should be required to wear a bodycam.

I also feel that every school and church should have security video cameras installed along with trained, professional security guards.

There's a school near me in LA that has a metal detector at the school entrance and they keep the school on lockdown during the day.  They also have armed security guards.   If this is what is needed to protect students at schools and parishioners attending churches, so be it.

If requiring dashcams, bodycams, and security cameras, deters one shooting or stops one person from pulling a trigger, then that requirement should be federal law.

I hope that one of the candidates for President talks about these issues.  The one who is willing to talk about the need for dashcams, bodycams, and security cameras, will be the candidate I'll be voting for when it comes to election time.
