Spam callers, otherwise known as telemarketers, who call everyone who has a phone are taking irritating to an entirely new level.
I received a phone call on my cell phone today. After some heavy breathing and no responding voice, I hung up.
I got online and clicked onto White Pages Free Reverse Phone Lookup. I plugged in the phone number that called my cell phone and this pretty little message popped up: Heavy spam activity suspected.
Telemarketers have skirted the Do Not Call Registry by hiring telemarketers to use their own cell phones to make telemarketing calls for them. It's harder to track the business this way and it's harder to fine the original company.
Scroll down to this beauty: #59. "Violators may be subject to fines up to $16,000 per violation. Each call may be considered a separate violation."
Register your phone number for free on https://www.donotcall.gov. Yes, you need a computer and the Internet to do so. My mother doesn't have a computer or the Internet so I handled her registration. It's nice to help your friends and relatives who don't have the Internet.
I had originally heard that you only have to subscribe your phone number every five years, but this says your subscription will expire twelve months after your Subscription Start Date. So, that means you have to update your subscription annually.
Another item added to my growing to-do list... welcome aboard!
