Job Layoffs: You're Not Alone

The economy is troubling and more people are being laid off every day.

Most often, these decisions are made to save on spending.  But it's big news.

The U.S. Army is planning to cut more than 40,000 troops over the next two years.

Shell will cut 6,500 jobs worldwide.

Relativity Media cuts one-fifth of its staff to reduce costs as bankruptcy is potentially on the horizon.

Up to 1,000 employees may be laid off at Wal-Mart.

Yes, there's a website devoted to Job Cuts.  That's how many job cuts there are daily in the United States and around the world.

For those people who are employed, do your job, keep your mouth shut about your private life, don't complain, go home at night and repeat the next day.  Stay out of the fray of firings and layoffs if you can.  If you're in a bad employment situation, look for another job before you quit.  The job market is very challenging right now.  It can take many people up to two years to find a job because of the lengthy online application process and cluttered job market.  For one job, two hundred to a thousand people might apply.  Be prepared and be smart.

For those people seeking employment, hang in there.  Reddit has a job sub-reddit filled with people who will give you advice on your job search, employment or unemployment.  There are also many websites with resume advice.  Keep applying for jobs.  Rewrite your resume.  Be positive and upbeat in interviews.  And you will eventually be hired somewhere.  Good luck on your job search.
