If you think things can't get worse, think again. Appreciate what you have every day, especially good health. It's always been said that life can change on a dime... and that's true.
A few weeks ago, I introduced you to my friend, Michael, who is living on Skid Row.
In 2013, Michael lost his job. He has a four-year college degree, he's always been a hard worker, and he thought he could get another job quickly. That didn't happen. The online application process is lengthy and oftentimes a waste of time.
In a two year span, he only had four interviews for job opportunities. In a trickle down effect, he lost his job, his relationship, his place to live, his car, and his dog. Then, all of his clothing and belongings were thrown out. He had lost everything and hit rock bottom. His parents are both dead and he has no siblings. With nowhere else to go, he made a choice to get help.
For the last seven months, he's been living on Skid Row in Los Angeles.
After a few interviews, he finally got a job for $9 an hour at Carl's Jr. for 28 hours a week. It doesn't qualify him for medical benefits and he will lose his other benefits as a result of taking a job. He is struggling but he wants to work full-time again. He wants to get his life back on track. He can't afford an apartment but he remains on a waiting list for government housing on Skid Row.
He is still living at one of the missions on Skid Row and commuting to his job by bus through the public transportation system.
Sadly, Michael was coming home from work at Carl's Jr. late at night a few days ago when he was attacked, beaten, and robbed on Skid Row after exiting the bus. The thieves stole his only important belongings, his wallet and his cell phone. He has two black eyes and he is recovering from his injuries while still living on Skid Row.
If your company is hiring or if anyone has a better full-time job opportunity for Michael in Los Angeles or California, please contact Michael directly at HireMichaelFilm@gmail.com.
