Family. It's a big word that is all-encompassing, reaching far beyond blood relations.
Case in point: Two men who were working in an assisted care home worked for free to take care of 16 residents when the care home shut down. Even though they weren't getting paid, they didn't abandon the residents who needed caretakers. According to NPR, this story inspired the 2014 Residential Care for the Elderly Reform Act in California.
Can you imagine if one of your relatives was in that home and funding was cut off? Most of the employees abandoned their posts because they weren't being paid... yet two men with compassionate hearts had perseverance until the sheriff's department finally stepped in and took over.
Far beyond the benefits of income, family takes care of family.
There are so many people in the world who have no one. They are abandoned by the system or abandoned by their families. People are busy and sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances.
Tippin' my hat to these two men who made a difference in their community!
