When the Worst Thing Happens...

What is the worst thing that can happen in life?

It's debatable, of course.  But I always believe the greatest loss is that of an innocent child.

The death of a child never makes sense.

Here's the story of a father who was spared prison after leaving his toddler in a hot car.

It's a hard story to read because the father was so very close to his son and he was a wonderful, loving father.

Toddlers tend to fall asleep in the car and become quiet instead of talkative.  This child must have been asleep or very quiet when his father arrived to work.  And the father forgot his son all day long causing his death.

With the son's death, the father, Kyle Seitz, became a defendant in court.  His wife, an attorney, became the writer of a blog where she shares stories about The Gift of Ben, the son they lost.  She shares facts such as an average of 38 children die each year from hyperthermia in vehicles.  Few of us know that statistic.  However, we can all agree that one death is too many.

This family has perseverance.  And now that Kyle has been sentenced to essentially probation for the death of his son, this family will rebuild by helping other people while spreading stories about their son.

Now, Ben's name will live on to save the lives of other children and prevent further tragedy.  It's a sad, but poignant story that needs to be shared to save lives.
