Celebrity Graduation Speeches & Matthew McConaughey

People are complaining about actor Matthew McConaughey's commencement speech at the University of Houston in Texas.

Why?

The price tag on that speech was more than $135,000 and cost $9,500 for a private jet to fly him in for his performance.

Here's some video from his speech.

Apparently, McConaughey donated the money directly to his charity which helps high school students.  That's a nice gesture.  Still... it's a serious price tag for a single speech.

I wonder how much comedian Will Ferrell was paid in 2003 for his commencement speech for Harvard.

In 2009, Ellen DeGeneres  was hilarious and touching at Tulane's graduation ceremony.

In 2011, Conan O'Brien was a hit at Dartmouth College.

There are many more, but my favorite has to be from actor Charlie Day at Merrimack College in 2014.  It is brilliant...and so if your commencement speaker was boring this year, watch this one. Here it Charlie Day...  Congratulations, Graduates!

There are also inspirational non-celebrity commencement speeches such as this from Kevin Colleran at Babson College.   He is a Facebook executive who was hit by a truck.  He explained to the students how it changed his life.  He also talks about being an entrepreneur for someone else's company instead of starting his own business.  Inspiration...
