Los Angeles City Raises Minimum Wage... by 2020

This is long overdue.  And it's a big deal to raise the minimum wage.

The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25.  That's poverty.

In California, where I live, the minimum wage is $9 an hour.  That's poverty.

So, these $10 hourly wages you see being offered all over the Internet for jobs still mean poverty. After taxes, that's not much take-home pay to support yourself or your family.

These are the working poor and they are everywhere.

Here's the good news.  The Los Angeles City Council passed a law to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour ... by the year 2020.  The increase is not coming soon enough, but it is going to inspire other major cities to follow suit.

In today's world, if you're desperate for a job, there are jobs that require four-year degrees, but only pay minimum wage.  This has been going on for years.

Even worse are the internships that offer no pay.    That's been going on for years, too.  But interns have been filing lawsuits.

There are problems with fair wages in every profession.  Even professional cheerleaders have to fight for fair wages.  What is going on with the lack of fair wages?

Here's my issue:  Fair wages.  If an employee can't survive or pay his/her bills on $10 an hour, it's not really a fair wage.

Employers should consider having 10 employees who are paid fair wages plus benefits instead of having a boatload of low-paid or non-paid employees...who end up hating their jobs and the business.

Employers ask this question:  At the end of the day, who is going to work harder for your business, your brand and its future?
