Corporate America.
Over the past ten years while working in corporate America, I have seen so many people gloat when someone else is fired.
Single mom fired: I see people laughing while telling the story.
50-year-old man fired who just bought his first house: I hear people laughing while they share the story of his firing.
47-year-old man fired and now homeless living on Skid Row: I hear former co-workers laughing it up about him.
Here's my takeaway value on the story about J.Crew's firing of 175 people, after company sales dropped with reported failure of the above sweater known as The Tilly.
J.Crew will rebound, of course. But will the 175 people who were laid off (which is a nice way of saying they were fired)?
Rounds of layoffs happen regularly in corporate America. Yet, we've become a society that wants other people to fail as seen in this story.
Celebrating someone else's loss of an income?
Celebrating someone's inability to provide for his or her family?
This story is a sad statement on society at large.
My advice: Be kind to everyone, especially those who are fired unexpectedly from their jobs.
Tomorrow you could be on the chopping block...
