America Thanks You Debbie Dills

If you spotted an alleged killer's car, what would you do?

Debbie Dills of North Carolina didn't think twice.

She chased the suspected killer for 35 miles while she talked to the police on her cell phone and led officers directly to him.

Debbie Dills spotted suspected Charleston, South Carolina gunman Dylann Roof and chased him in her car.  That daring move by Dills most likely prevented further bloodshed.

In all, nine people were murdered in cold blood while attending a Bible study and prayer meeting in Charleston.

The Washington Post says this marks the deadliest shooting in a place of worship in 24 years.

Sadly, what do we need to do to protect people?

There are some middle schools and high schools with armed security guards.

Now, do we need armed security guards in places of worship?  Pastors and parishioners are discussing this possibility.  Especially since there was another shooting at a church in Tennessee.  No one was hurt in that shooting, but no one heard the gunfire because the music was playing for choir rehearsal.  They only found the bullet hole in the back door after choir practice.

A few years ago, I conducted a funeral in a church for someone who was murdered in a gang shooting.  The moment I finished the funeral, the staff told me to leave the building and drive away because there was a possibility of gunfire in the parking lot after the funeral.  That was the first time I realized that someone would actually consider pulling the trigger at a church.  I no longer felt safe in that church so I left.  Everyone else left the location, too.

It's a sad state of affairs when something like this happens.

My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families in Charleston.
